Al-Buhturi was one of the most oustanding poets of the Abbasid period (750-1258). Al-Buhturi spent his career as a poet in the courts of caliphs in Egypt, Syria, and Iraq. The majority of his poems are panegyrics, as is customary of court poets, which is poetry written in praise of something or someone else. His early poems are of value historically for the allusions they make to contemporary events. This is one book in two volumes.
