The complete works of this Sudanese author include novels that tell the stories of civil war and strife in his home country. This novel tells of the seasonal workers, the Jingo, who leave their poor villages in search of a living with hopes to return with a small fortune that changes their lives. After long daily hours of backbreaking work, they rest their weary bodies with miserable women and drown their sorrows in cheap wine in the town of Hilla. Winner of the Arab Literature Prize 2020 awarded by the Arab World Institute and the Jean-Luc Lagardere Foundation.
