Before the riches of oil, Kuwait was a prosperous maritime port city and the principal commercial center for the transit of goods between India, Muscat, Baghdad, and Arabia. It was the major trading route from the Persian Gulf to Aleppo. From pearl diving to fishing and other goods, merchant families had the most economic power. Al-Duqs is the Kuwaiti slang word for the sailor at the height of his glory. This novel is a tale of a Kuwaiti sailor, his seafaring adventures, and his love of the sea.
