Ahmad bin al-Amin al-Shinqiti is considered the most famous early writer from Mauritania. He was a Sufi scholar, writer and poet. He is well known for his interest in language and criticism of poetry because he cared both about the melody as well as the linguistics. His explanations of early Arabic poetry are highly regarded. This book features his explanations of the Mu'allaqat -- the famous set of pre-Islamic long poems considered by scholars to be the primary source for early Arabic poetry.
