The author, Ibrahim Eissa, is an outspoken and controversial Egyptian journalist, TV personality, and author. In addition to death threats, his ongoing fight for freedom of expression and the press has won him the 2010 Freedom of Expression Award and the International Journalist of the Year 2010. This sweeping novel, based on actual historic events, narrates the bloody conflicts and lust for power of the early Muslims after the death of the Prophet Muhammad and the assassination of Uthman ibn Affan, the prophet's son-in-law.
