The five-act satirical play by Niccolo Machiavelli was first published in 1524. Now in Arabic, it tells the story of a beautiful married woman and the protagonist who conspires to sleep with her with the help of an unethical doctor and a drug made from mandrake root. The comedy is believed to have been written as a critique of the House of Medici to show the author's bitterness at being excluded from high society.
