The author, Hermann Frederick Eilts was a U.S. foreign service officer, diplomat, and former American ambassador to Saudia Arabia, Bangladesh, and Egypt. This book, originally published in 1980, tells the story of Ahmad bin Na'aman's mission to the United States in 1840 on the ship Al-Sultanah. Na'aman, sent by the Sultan of Oman, was the first Arab emissary to visit the United States. Al-Sultanah's cargo included Persian rugs, coffee, dates, ivory, and spices.
