This intriguing novel is based on the life of the well-known Lebanese writer, May Ziade, and highlights the important role played by women in a society gripped by stifling patriarchy. May worked tirelessly for women's expression but was never accepted among the literary elite of her time. Her nephew had her committed to a mental institution and this novel hones in on the moment of her "madness" and her attempt to prove her sanity. Longlisted for the IPAF 2019.
