Kawakibi (d.1902) was a Syrian author and prominent intellectual of his time known for his political views and writings. His political outspokenness against the Ottoman Empire caused him to be intimidated and harassed on a regular basis; and he was even imprisoned. He believed the Ottoman Empire caused the decline of Muslims at that time and called for Arabs everywhere to be united. This volume offers his two most influential books, "The Nature of Despotism" and "The Mother of Cities: Mecca".
