The Beirut39 project named this Saudi writer one of the best 39 authors under age 40, and this novel was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic fiction in 2013, and the French translation won the Prix de la Littérature Arabe 2015 for best Arabic novel translated into French. Mr. Alwan is once again on the IPAF shortlist (2017) for his fifth novel, "A Small Death".
