The novel is like a Syrian journalist's diary. This journalist begins to think of committing suicide after the depressive episodes that she has experienced because of the Syrian revolution and its impact on society, especially after her daughter travels and she is left alone. She eventually comes to realize that adapting to living in tragedy can be a means of resistance to death.
