Longlisted for the 2020 IPAF. This is the sixth novel by Moroccan author, Hassan Aourid. This novel tells a mystical story about the great classical poet Al-Mutanabbi who comes to Rabat, Morocco after the Arab Spring and visits the protagonist in his apartment. Al-Mutanabbi slips out of the apartment into the modern world and is promptly arrested and placed in a mental hospital. The protagonist visits the poet and they discuss the problems of Arab culture.
