The twelvth novel by the award-winning Iraqi author tells the story of Fatima who will later become Sophie. As Fatima, she experiences all the horror of the armed extremists who control her village. She escapes to Europe via a trafficking network and when she reaches Brussels, she remains Fatima by day and throws off her niqab to become Sophie at night. The novel has received critical acclaim and was produced as a stage play in France.
