Longlisted for the 2020 IPAF, this is an historical novel that takes place during the "seferberlik," which was the forced conscription of Arabs by the Ottomans to fight during World War I. This resulted in the deportation of thousands of Arab families to Anatolia. In this novel, we follow the life and conscription of Dheeb, a former citizen of Medina, and his new life in Damascus waiting for the Ottomans to leave.
