The Emirate of Bari was a short-lived Islamic state in Southern Italy from 847 to 871. The third and final emir of Bari was Sawdan who came to power around 857 and ruled until 871 when Bari fell to the army of Emperor Louis II. This exciting historic novel by Egypt's famed author tells the story of the rule of Sawdan. It was an era of love, betrayal, battles, and blood. Winner of the Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction.
